Let’s KICK OFF SUMMER!

19 Jun

Hopefully I’ll get to kayak this season, my current vehicle lacks a roof rack so I’m depending on other people and, that seldom ends well. I’m sort of in financial limbo as the union could call a strike any day, so I’m not eager to run out and spent $$$ on a big ticket item. I have money in savings, I have back ups, I’m fine; I have to be smart.

I heard back from Champagne that Magus’ Gambit, the second book in the Rogue Healer series is delayed until September 18. I learned years ago not to sit on my hands whining about it, if anything I should be working on book 4 or can do the preedits on book 3. Publisher also gave me ideas for a wishlist, and I ought to be doing those.

Only I have been wading through my YA books. The beta reading on book 1 has been delayed because Ron is busy with his edits for two different projects, and my nephew asked “Where’s my book??” so I’ve been kind of working on that, as well as sort of working on Book 2 of the Puppet Master stuff. I wanted to shift focus, and so far I have lots of action sequences, but I need to sit down and figure it out; which I will be honest will probably take place after I write the book for my nephew when I don’t have two ideas competing; his will be shorter/simpler so I will do that first. The ideal would be to have a mostly rough draft for Puppet Masters 2 while I’m fixing book 1, so they tie in together.

So in keeping with “Hey, let’s keep up the self-pubbing momentum” I’ll be working on Derelict Knights for publication but if MG delays, I may or may not do it this year I don’t want them competing for my attention. I’d love to have Ballad ready for the end of the year, but it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever written, and that takes time to do well. I could also massively take the project in different directions, based on feedback from my niece and beta reader. I also have other projects to keep myself occupied, plus I’ve been doing a lot more drawing lately.

Anyway – Ron and Larry will be at the Highland Festival this weekend; they never have room for me at the table anymore; I had to trade to get today off to do my CPR recert so I work on Friday (Grumble grumble one of the many, many reasons this strike nonsense is going on) so it makes zero sense for me to show up exhausted, because there used to be a chance I am functional after night shift, now not at all. It’s not getting older; we are incredibly short units and it’s not uncommon for me to make funny faces when I hear of multiple units going further and further out of their usual zones to help. Blah blah blah work life balance, so I don’t know what shows I will be at moving forward. I like going to comic cons and science fiction and fantasy stuff; besides Keycon honestly I must irritate a lot of people’s demons there I’ve pretty much had it trying to be taken seriously there, and let’s just say the amount of toxicity I have had to endure at work has made me less likely to endure it for my professional hobby. You can only move the goalposts so much, but whatever. I have some Police and Firefighter games to prepare for, hopefully we avoid a strike and I get to enjoy vacation next month.
